Nick Cave at the YBCA

J♥, some cool people and I swung by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts this past Sunday to see the Ronald K. Brown / Nick Cave Soundsuits Collaboration and the Nick Cave exhibit. It was amazing.

Even if you aren’t into what I am going to call experimental fashion for lack of knowing the proper terms, you’ll find something you enjoy. Seeing all these elaborate and interesting garments made out of unexprected materials is a real jolt to the creative part of the brain and soul. I mean, an almost life sized Polar Bear made out of sweaters and a outfit made out of childrens tin toys, where else are you going to see that?

I took a few pictures of the dancing part of Sundays show, and J♥ took some video. The dancing part of the exhibition is over from what I know, so here is a little piece of YBCA history, from us to you.

Rudy Rucker talks Glittery Poo

Over on boing boing local science man Rudy Rucker wrote an article on a few new pieces over at the SF Moma, one being a large brightly colored canvas by Frank Stella that I absolutely love.

You should also check out the exhibition by the completely awesome William Kentridge ’cause it closes at the end of this month and it’s 100% awesome. Freaky wierd art hooray!

UC Berkeley Art Museum

Over the weekend the dreamboat and I swung by the UC Berkeley Art Museum, and I must say I was slightly underwhelmed (by the art, not by the building itself, which is pretty damn awesome in its layout).

E. Chagoyas Borderlandia Exhibit

Enrique Chagoya’s Borderlandia is currently the main exhibit, and while it had some really awesome pieces, there is only so much political statement I can take in one sitting. I did really fancy his mix media pieces, and his adaptations on “The Disasters of War” artworks by Francisco Goya.

Photo of Z.L. Frontal View

There were only a couple of other pieces in the museums other galleries that I really enjoyed, one being the photograph above; Zoe Leonard’s “Frontal View” (sorry for the slight blur, I get paranoid about getting a “talking to” from a docent, so I try to be quick). I love the shine, sparkle and Alice in Wonderland meets playing dress up feel. Just lovely.

SF Ballet

Ballet Shoes Line by Jeff Medaugh

Last night J♥ took me to my first ballet, it was awesome and beautiful. I’ve always had an admiration for dancers. There’s such grace and amazing figures on ladies and gents in the dance profession. Not to mention the ability to jump 5 feet in the air without moon shoes, and the whole mind over matter up on your toes business.

If you have never been to the ballet, I strongly suggest going, even if don’t really think you’ll be into it. I found myself thinking about so many random things while I watched the men and women on the stage, some of which had nothing to do with the ballet itself and more with my future and getting where I want to be. Something about watching these dancers who have worked and practiced their whole lives to be doing this, dancing in front of hundreds of people, was quite motivating and inspiring.

Right now the SF Ballet is having their New Works Festival which runs from April 22 through May 6th, and features 10 world premiere ballet performances. We saw program A; Fusion, Within the Golden Hour, and Changes. I am no ballet critic, seeing this is my first in person ballet and I didn’t go to ballet academy, but I must say Fusion was fricken’ amazing! It was very much what I envision when I think ballet, but a little more fun and modern. It was excellent.

Longchamp + window + art = awesome!

While running around the Financial District looking for a cooking scale late Sunday afternoon the dreamboat and I passed this window display at Longchamp on the way to Maiden Lane.

I don’t know anything about the company itself, but I love this! I had to stop and take pictures and stare in adoration for a minute or two. The cute little Cheetah boy with the satchel and the Lion are my favorites. Two cheers for beautiful illustration work!
