This weekend I’m letting my geek flag fly and heading out to the San Francisco Zine Fest at Golden Gate Park. I’ll be getting on a plane for a long 8+ hour trip to Copenhagen in a little less than three weeks and the whole flight cant be all self help books and fiction novels. Sometimes a girl needs a little bit more visual stimulation. Also, I ♥ zines (and comics and graphic novels…)!

Not everyone has an inner geek though, and for you lovely people the weekend should be chocked full of fun too…

Home Ec – Fans of food will want to get out to 2009’s San Francisco Street Food festival on Saturday. With deliciousness from Kasa, Bi-Rite, Delfina, and more(!) ranging from 3-8 bucks what reasons could you possibly have for not getting out there and enjoying a few tasty morsels? | Saturday, August 22, 2009 @ Jack London Square *edit* This event is actually happening at La Cocina (Folsom and 25th St), for more details see Johnny’s comment below, thanks Johnny! : funcheapSF

P.E. – If there was a zombie uprising would you be ready? What about vampires? Could you handle some bad ass, fast as all get out, blood sucking vampires in hand to hand to silver bullet battle? If you answer yes to either of these questions then perhaps the Anarchist Olympics are your can of woop ass. Head on out and compete in ultra emo, but manly, and womanly, events like slingshot shooting, combat kissing, and capture the flag. Show ‘em what you got! | Saturday & Sunday, August 22 & 23, 2009 @ Golden Gate Park : funcheapSF

K-12- Schools starting up again and Mayor Newsom along with the crew over at 826 Valencia want the kidlets of SF to be prepared to get great grades! The Mayors Office of Neighborhood Services (MONS) will be giving out backpacks full of supplies to kidlets excited about filling their big heads with big brains this year. | Saturday, August 22, 2009 @ 826 Valencia *edit* This is going to happen at Bernal Dwellings Housing Complex (26th and ) not 826. Sorry! :funcheapSF

*826 also want to make your kids bellies pudgier and will be having an Ice Cream Social on Saturday too. Big brains and pudgy bellies? YES!*

Have a great weekend everyone!

Are you ready for the weekend? For some reason I am not. The temp thing has been slow the last two weeks, and when I am not working the weekend just doesn’t seem as magical. Here’s to hoping that changes by tomorrow.

Some things going on in the Bay Area this weekend…

Do you have little ones that love books, or perhaps little ones that you wish loved books? Why not take them to the 9th Annual Dia de los Ninos, Dia de los libros, music dance and book festival in Delores Park this Sunday? There will be music, multicultural dance, story time, and each kidlet will walk away with his or her own book. Yay! :: SFfuncheap, Mission Learning Center

Speaking of dancing, in celebration of Bay Area National Dance Week the Dancing in the Park & Young Choreographers Festival will be happening on Saturday in Golden Gate Park. Why not go out and see some ballet or modern dance for free, and enjoy Golden Gate Park while you’re at it? :: SFfuncheap

If Samurais, blood and brunch are more your thing than Samurai Brunch at the Dark Room on Sunday should be right up your alley! They provide the gory martial arts flick, Riki-Oh: the Story of Ricky, and brunch snacks, your BYOB or Mimosas or Sake, or whatever strikes your fancy. It’s 5 bucks to get in, free if you happen to bring a gong (or so I read). :: SFfuncheap, the Dark Room

There are plenty of fine art galleries in San Francisco, and on Saturday you can explore and take a gander at 9 of them for free in the Yerba Buena area of the Soma. All galleries are within a 3 block radius and refreshments will be served along the way. ::SFfuncheap, Yerba Buena

And something I am hoping will be as awesome as it sounds is the Bus Obscura tours and Pinhole Camera Festival going on in the Soma on Sunday. I mean come on, a bus turned into a giant animated pinhole camera has to be awesome doesn’t it? Happening in honor of Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, there will also be two pinhole camera galleries, demos and a lot of fun. I will most definitely be at this, not that that’s another reason to come out or anything. :: SFfuncheap, Rayko Photo Center

Have an amazing weekend everyone!

I hope everyone has plans for this lovely weekend that quickly approaches. Me, I am going to a city clean up that’s going on Saturday morning, and then I’m off to a bridal shower for my awesome friend *E* that I haven’t seen in pretty close to a year. Hooray for friends from the Bay Area returning to the bay area for a day!

How about you? What will you be up to? Any plans? If you’re at a loss, here are a few environmentally themed things going on in the Bay Area this weekend, in honor of Earth Day next week.

1. If you’re willing to brave the largest tourist trap in our fair city on a weekend Earth Fest is happening on Sunday over on Fisherman’s Wharf. Grab the kids and learn a few things you can do around your home to help lady Earth. :: FunCheapSF, Aquarium of the Bay

2. Into getting down and dirty in the soil? Why not head out to Alemany Farm this Saturday and work your green thumbs magic? Help prepare plant beds and plant seedlings. Enjoy free food and music too! :: FunCheapSF

3. If hiking and trail running is your thing why not give back and head over to “East Bay Regional Park District presents: Earth Day and California Trail Days” over in Antioch on Saturday. Help tidy up the trails and park and mingle and have lunch with other trail lovers from the Bay Area. :: FunCheapSF

Additionally the “Earth Day on the Bay” Festival is happening on Saturday in Redwood City, and the 4th Annual Healthy Living Fair is going on here in Laurel Heights on Sunday. So get on out there, volunteer, learn, have a good time and do something for yourself and lady Earth.

All the best and have an amazing weekend everyone!

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone is prepared to have an amazing weekend!

If you’re going to be in the San Francisco Bay Area this weekend here are a few things that are going on, just in case you just have no idea what you want to get up to.

1. As usual the wonderful Alemany Farmers Market, and the Almaney Flea Market happen on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

2. On Saturday UC Berkeley is having its annual open house chocked full of music, lecture and workshop events, open for anyone who wants to check it out. See more info at funcheapSF.

3. Are you new to biking in SF? If so, this might be good for you. REI in the Soma is having a little 90 minute workshop about biking anywhere quickly and safely in San Francisco on Sunday morning. See more info at funcheapSF.

4. There will be a Wo Man Erotic Art show with music and djs at Bollyhood Café in the Mission District. I’ve never been to the Café, but it could be interesting. Anything involving Bollywood can’t be all bad! More info at funcheapSF.

5. The Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off its first day of festivities on Saturday in Japan Town. The festival runs all weekend and events include a tea ceremony, arts and crafts, and a parade amongst other things. More information available at NCCBF.org.

Whatever you choose to do this weekend relax, have fun and enjoy it!
